Product Details
These crayons are made from natural soy wax, calcium carbonate, and mineral powders.  However, there are a few colors require a small amount of petroleum based wax (0.05%) to help the pigments stay in solution.  Without the petroleum based wax those colors are either ugly or poor quality.
  • A terrific art material for children, made of a softer soy wax and tinted with mineral powders, Crayon Rocks make vibrant colors and beautiful textures
  • Soy crayons are made from renewable soybeans grown in the USA and are colored with natural mineral powders. Conforms to ASTM D 4236.
  • Designed to strengthen the tripod grip muscles, preparing fingers and hands for handwriting skills
  • Specially shaped to allow small fingers to color in large, wide strokes, promoting confidence in creating kids' art.
  • Used by occupational therapists and teachers of children with special needs to develop fine motor skills and provide handwriting practice
  • A preliminary study from Columbia College shows that 3-4 year olds get the most motor skill benefit from using these crayons.
  • Due to the size and shape of these crayons, any child that may put them in their mouth needs to be supervised.

Dimensions:  8 rocks; 1 1/4" x 3/4" x 1/2" (approximately)

Age Recommendations: Due to small parts that could pose a choking hazard, it is NOT recommended for children under the age of 3 or older children that still put toys in their mouths.

Materials:
natural soy wax, calcium carbonate, and mineral powders (a few colors require a small amount of petroleum based wax)

Packaging: plastic bag (for shipping) within a velveteen (not natural materials) bag.

Made in USA

Company Details:

This company is working towards greening the packaging of their products.

Packaging for the student box will be converted from a litho-print paper box and plastic sleeve to a recycled kraft cardboard with soy ink or other biodegradable inks for print and a "plastic" sleeve made from either a biodegradable plastic or a corn starch "plastic".  Additional packaging options (tin and cloth bag) are also being considered.  The box for 'Just Rocks 64' is made from recycled cardboard, used biodegradable inks for print, has multiple uses in the classroom and is compostable.

Currently they reuse any packaging they receive and purchase only 100% recycled shipping boxes and corn puff packing material.

They do their best to use printers that use recycled paper and earth friendly inks for their cards and info sheets. Additionally, around the office everything gets recycled or composted. Only a little bit of soy oil and wax gets sent to the landfill (which is biodegradable).
