Three reasons to buy a Fair Trade Sports Ball (other than they are loads of fun)
Eco-certified - The inner air blatter (which makes up 70% of the weight of the ball and makes it bounce) is made from 100% eco-certified natural rubber from forests in Sri Lanka and India that have been certified by Forest Stewardship Council. In soccer balls, air bladders are usually made from natural latex or butyl (artificial rubber). Latex bladders tend to provide a better surface tension, feel and response than butyl. They also need to be re-inflated every now and again, which is why every Fair Trade Sports soccer ball comes with a re-inflation needle to get the job done.
Fair Trade - A significant milestone for Fair Trade is that the producers of a product should earn enough in order to provide for themselves and their families. If adults can pay for shelter, food, clothing, medical needs, emergencies, and expenses for education, then children no longer have to contribute to family income. Fair Trade Sports sell only balls that have passed the standards of the Fairtrade Labeling Organization (FLO). All of Fair Trade sports balls are certified to be stitched by adult workers paid fair wages and ensured healthy working conditions.

(FP) The other 30% of this ball is made from synthetic leather, which currently petroleum-based. However, they are currently working on ideas to use bio-fuels to create a better synthetic leather outer shell for the sports balls.
